Why choose a technology degree?

Making career decisions can be very confusing, especially when you consider the investment you make in getting yourself a good education. Choosing the area of study is one of the most important elements in this decision making process, and the choice can depend on many issues. During the dot com boom, there was little doubt that a technical degree was the best way to find yourself a well-paying job, with lots of prospects and excitement. There was a shortage of graduates and companies paid starting bonuses to secure the right people. Since the bust, there has been a perception that technical degrees would not give you good job prospects, but in fact that is not correct. Students specializing in technology can still make higher starting salaries than any other subject, according to a survey conducted by Beta Research for the New York Times.

And it is not just first degrees that count. Graduates of MBAs specializing in the technology sector are in great demand, and starting salaries can be as high as $78,000. Technical degrees at all levels - Associate, Bachelor and Master - are attractive to employers, and there is a shortage of good graduates in the market place. The next five years are going to see this trend increase, so see if you can find a place in this market.
